Hi, I’m Rob.
I’m the founder of AtLongLast Analytics and a data & AI engineer. I started out as an academic, with a PhD in mathematics studying the fluid dynamics of the Earth’s core.
From there I moved into education, then into UK defense research as a data engineer at the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl). Over the last decade I’ve designed and delivered production data platforms and AI systems for defense, aviation, and education teams.
I lead every engagement myself, from first conversation to handover.

Generative AI for content creation
Built generative AI tooling for a UK defense program that brings image, audio, and text generation into digital artists’ content-creation workflows, running offline.
Offline LLMs for wargaming
Built a production Python application that integrates offline AI models, letting wargaming simulations run securely on sensitive data. A novel capability with no commercial off-the-shelf equivalent.
Azure data platform for aviation
Designed and delivered a production Azure Synapse Analytics environment serving operational data to teams across 3 airports and tens of business units.
Education ML application
Built a supervised machine-learning application that identified the students whose grade increases would most raise the school’s overall position, so staff could focus support where it had the greatest impact.

It’s what I’d say when something long overdue finally got done. I like working with teams who’ve lived with a problem for a long time, and helping them finally solve it. It helps that I enjoy a pun, and my surname is Long.
